Cheerleading Tryouts
When are tryouts typically held?
Usually mid/late April.
What are the required tumbling skills?
For females, a consistent standing tuck is required to be considered for the team. As for males, a standing tuck is not required, but encouraged. Running tumbling is not a requirement to try out, however, it will be a part of the tryout and scoring process by our panel of judges.
If I don’t have a running full, can I still make the team?
Yes.
What are the required stunting skills?
There are no set stunting requirements in order to try out.
What all do I have to do at tryouts?
You will be sent material to learn and will be scored by our panel of judges.
FEMALES will be scored on the following: Fight song, band dance, sideline cheers, standing tuck, spirit, jumps, and stunting.
MALES will be scored on the following: Fight song, band dance, sideline cheers, spirit, and stunting.
Do current members on the team have to try out each season?
Yes. All returning members must go through the tryout process each season.
If I make the team, will I have to pay any money to be a UGA Cheerleader?
No. We are fully funded by our athletic department.
What scoring aspect of tryouts is weighted the most?
Scoring system for FEMALES: interview 15 points, sideline cheers 20 points, band dance 10 points, fight song 20 points, running tumbling 5 points, jumps 5 points, stunting 15 points, and spirit 10 points for a total of 100 points. These point values were based on 2023-24 tryouts . These values are subject to future change.

Can I tryout for multiple positions?
No. You will need to tryout for the position you feel most comfortable and confident in. However during the tryout process, our staff may ask to see if you have any versatility with other positions.
What do judges look for at tryouts?
Judges look for motion technique, sharpness, voice projection, tumbling/jump technique, stunting technique, musicality, performance value, and genuine spirit.
If I am unable to make the tryout date, am I able to tryout by video or be allowed an early/late tryout?
No. We do not accept video tryouts or schedule early/late tryouts. You must be present for the entire tryout process.
What do I wear for tryouts?
FEMALES: Form fitting full tank top, spandex shorts, hair away from your face, and cheer shoes
MALES: Athletic t-shirt or polo tucked in, athletic shorts, and athletic shoes
What do I wear for the interview process?
Business casual attire
