Cheerleading Program Structure

How many teams do you have and how many are on each team?

We have a coed team with up to 10 females and 10 males. We have an all girl team with up to 20 females.

Are the cheerleaders affiliated with Georgia’s Athletic Department?

Yes. We are the official cheerleading team of Georgia Athletics.

Are there any benefits/perks to being a UGA Cheerleader?

Benefits include stipends each semester that can range from $550-$950 per semester, free use of our Rankin Smith Academic Center, priority scheduling, FREE Georgia Nike apparel, the opportunity to letter as a student-athlete at the University of Georgia, the opportunity to travel to away football games (including postseason bowl games) and SEC & NCAA Basketball Tournaments. We also have access to many other student-athlete resources such as nutritionists, sports psychologists, and academic counselors.

What sports do you cheer for?

We cheer at all home and away football games, home men’s & women’s basketball games, home volleyball matches, and home gymnastics meets. We also cheer for football and basketball postseason play which includes CFP playoff games, bowl games, SEC tournaments and NCAA basketball tournaments.

Do you cheer at every single game?

The entire team will cheer home football games. As for the remainder of the sports listed above, we cheer in smaller groups that are on a rotation system. On a season average, you would be looking at cheering around 5-6 home football games, 13-15 basketball games, 2-3 volleyball matches, and 2-3 gymnastics meets. These numbers do not include travel games.

How does travel work?

Travel is considered a privilege and will be decided by the Director of Spirit Programs. Travel numbers are dictated by budget restrictions and rules/regulations set forth by the SEC/NCAA and the institutions we are visiting. Seniority remains the main factor when determining travel, however, other factors do go into play when awarding travel. These factors include: a demonstrative commitment with participation in practice, workouts, & games, academic performance, and 100% performance clearance from our UGA Sports Medicine staff.

How often do you practice/workout?

Our current practice schedule is Monday/Wednesday/Friday for 2 to 2.5 hours each evening and workouts take place on Tuesday/Thursday morning for an additional hour each day. We will call additional practices throughout the season if needed.

What do practices and workouts look like?

Being 100% ready for game days is our priority when it comes to practice. We spend time working and perfecting material while maintaining and progressing with stunting and tumbling skills. We also condition at every practice. As for workouts, they involve strength training, body sculpting, and hypertrophy.

What does the in-season time commitment look like?

In season, a typical week would include 2-3 practices, 2 workouts, and 2-3 games/appearances. Our season starts in July and ends in April. Tryouts are held towards the middle/late of April.

Is there a summer commitment?

Yes, and it is mandatory. If you make the team in April, we have a mandatory work weekend that usually takes place Friday - Sunday of the second weekend in July and our 2-A-Days camp that usually takes place the Thursday - Sunday of the first week in August. Both of these are mandatory.
